The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) is the board that is responsible for entrance examinations into Nigerian tertiary institutions. Prospective undergraduates seeking admission into any Nigerian universities must have to undergo the annual entrance Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. What you need to know about JAMB results checking and printing

In this section of the article, I will be sharing with you a step by step guide on how to go about the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) result checking and printing.

Usually, the JAMB results upload takes place after the examinations has been written nationwide. To take part in the examination, each prospective student must first register for the examination on the JAMB portal before the stipulated end of the registration. Checking and printing of JAMB results is a simple process; you would have to do only 2 steps, they include

Visit the JAMB result checking homepage. You will have to provide registration number or email in the space provided.
Select on the check JAMB result icon, after the result has been displayed you can click on print.

Recently, the board also created a medium through which prospective students can check their JAMB result by simply texting RESULT to 55019 from the exact phone number that was used during registration. Although, you must have at least N50 in your recharge balance to be able to access this service.

How long does a jamb result last/for how long is a JAMB result valid?

As the time for registration & examination for 2019/2020 JAMB is getting closer, many JAMB candidates have been seeking answers to this question: how long is JAMB result valid?

Well, in this section of the article, I will be providing you with answers to the question.

In 2016, there was news all over the internet that JAMB result is now valid for 3 years when the Nigerian senate led by Senator Bukola Saraki, passed the JAMB Act Amendment Bill 2016 (SB. 245) after it was read for the third time and passed. However, this bill hasn’t yet still be implemented by the federal government.

JAMB result is valid for one year pending the time bill is been implemented into law. So, the JAMB result expiration is strictly for one year.

Can JAMB result be used twice?

JAMB results cannot be used twice since the federal government has failed to implement the JAMB Act Amendment Bill 2016. Any candidate that didn’t get admission with a particular JAMB result before the JAMB result expiration date will have to register for another JAMB examination. The JAMB result expiring date is for one year.

What can cause JAMB result delay?

Since the commencement of the CBT examination, candidates can check their result 30 minutes after finishing their exams but recently, many have experienced a delay in accessing their JAMB results. JAMB result upload is usually delayed if any of the following happens:

When a high number of malpractices was recorded across the country, this is detected by the several CCTV cameras installed by JAMB in all CBT centers nationwide
Cancellation of some JAMB centers all over the Nigeria
When a new date is fixed for candidates that would require re-writing their exams (usually a new date is fixed for them).

Except any of this happens, JAMB result upload aren’t delayed or restricted from the public.

You can check your JAMB result by simply login to your UTME profile with your email and password, then click on the Check 2020 UTME results features on the JAMB e-facility website.

During the JAMB registration for 2020/2021, Candidates without their O’level results are allowed to register for the UTME using awaiting results. However, it’s advisable that the o’level should be uploaded on the JAMB portal immediately it’s released. Most years’ deadline for candidates to upload their o’level result is usually before admission period is over, except stated otherwise by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board management.

Religion in Nigeria [history, beliefs, distribution and demographics]

Nigeria Religion History

The old Nigeria was dominated by the traditional religion, popularly called the African Traditional Religion. These religions are the beliefs and practices of Africans. This is pure tradition and mainly indigenous to Africa, and for Africans.

Today, Nigeria has become the most populous country in Africa, with a population of up to 200 million. Religion in Nigeria today is almost equally divided between Islam and Christianity. Other religion asides these two remain minor.

In the Northern part of Nigeria, the Muslims there are Sunni, where the Islam religion is more concentrated. Christianity religion is more practised in the South.

The Protestant Christians dominate Christianity in Nigeria, Catholic represents up to a quarter of this religion population.

Apart from the main religious sects, the traditional religion still exists. This traditional belief system doesn’t contradict the civil law. They govern morality and ethics in society.

Nigeria Religion and Beliefs

Yes, Nigeria’s population is large, but don’t think only Islam and Christianity account for the religion in the country. There are other types of faith and beliefs in Nigeria.

With over 350 ethnic groups plus over 500 languages, it will be wrong to assume that only two religion exist in face of this diversity of ethnicities, cultures and beliefs.

In Nigeria, different parts of the country belong to different religions.

Under Christianity, we have Protestant, Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox Christians and other branches of churches.

For Islam, we Sunni, Sharia, Shia, Sufi, Izala, Ahmadiyya, Quraniyoon, and Mahdiyya.

Other religions include:

* Hinduism, of Indian origin.

* Chrislam. This is a blend of Christianity and Islam, using both the Quran and the Bible as the basis of practice.

* The Grail Movement.

* The Reformed Ogboni Fraternity. This fraternity is based on ancient usages, rites and customs.

Nigeria Religion Before Colonization

Religion has been one of the major cause of the struggle in Nigeria. There have been deep roots of religion in different tribes of Nigeria, before colonization.

The Hausa/Fulani Religion in Pre-Colonial Nigeria

One of the most prominent tribes in Nigeria is the Hausa/Fulani tribe. Today, this tribe is the major representative of Islam in Nigeria.

The Hausa tribe had her own Traditional African Beliefs, known as Maguzawa.

So far, Hausa remains the least to be influenced by the traditional religious beliefs in the country – as a result of Islam. The Hausas accepted and supported the Muslims when they came to Hausaland around the 11th century. The religion was brought to them by traders from Mali, North Africa, and Guinea.

The Hausas was able to achieve a dominant tribe in West Africa partly due to the Islam religion.

The Igbo Religion in Pre-Colonial Nigeria

Before colonization in Nigeria, the Igbos used to believe in Odinani – the common name for the traditional religion.

A monotheistic attribute of this religion was its major characteristics.

In this traditional religion, only one God is believed, delegating some powers to other spirits.

To some extent, this religious belief is similar to the Christian cosmology.

The Igbos believed that there is only one God, called Chineke, who was the original creator of things on Earth and above.

There was also a belief that this world was divided into two, the Human and the Spirit world. Humans are to travel to the Spirit world after death, according to their belief.

The Yoruba Religion in Pre-Colonial Nigeria

Till date, the Yoruba tribe still exalts its traditional religious practices and believes it has a connection with culture and other colonial religion in Nigeria.

A popular Yoruba religion is called Ifa. It is a system of divination. The literary corpus of Ifa is the Odu Ifá.

Here, Orunmila is referred to as the Grand Priest. It was him who revealed divinity and the prophecy to the world.

A key element of the Yoruba religion is destiny (Ayanmo), possessed by all humans.

Eledumare, Olofi and Olorun are different names for common gods in the Yoruba religion.

In 2019, a report by The World Factbook revealed that Nigeria has about 51% of the population who are Muslims. For Christianity, the percentage was 47. Up to 1% of the population adhere to local religions, and about 0.5% of the population are unspecified.

A study in 2018 estimated that the population of Muslims in Nigeria is 53%. Roman Catholic has 10.6% of the population, and it was 35.3% for Christians. Others, including the no-religion population is just 6%.

As of 2016, Nigeria was the 6th largest nation in the world where Christianity religion is being practised. For Islamic largest population worldwide, Nigeria is 5th.

Christians have a percentage of 49.3 while it was 48.8% for the Muslims. The remaining 2% are other religions (or no religion).

Nigeria Religion and Language

The Hausa ethnic group in the northern part of Nigeria has the highest followers of Islam in Nigeria.

For the Yorubas in the West (Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ogun and Lagos), religion is divided, among Christianity, Islam, and Traditional religions.

In the East, the Igbos are mainly followers of Christianity (Catholics), although some still practice traditional religion. Same goes for the Ijaws in the South.

The middle belt (Abuja, Kwara, Niger, Benue) has minor ethnic groups. Most of them are Christians and some native practice traditional religion, with few Islam converts.

Nigeria Religion Conflict

There has been religion conflict in Nigeria, as far back as 1953.

The most prominent one today is the violence caused by the Boko Haram insurgency. The goal is to establish an Islamic state(s) in the country. For years, damages have been done. Citizens have been abducted.

The religion conflict in Jos will never be forgotten in the history of Nigeria. Southern Kaduna has also experienced serious religion conflict.

After the democratic government came into power in 1999, there has been the introduction of Sharia law into the constitution of states dominated by Muslims.

There have been different cases of religious conflict in Nigeria. In 1966, the Igbos in the North were massacred. This caused tension the local Muslims and the Igbos. It was the major factor that led to a civil war.

Till date, the heat of religious conflict in Nigeria continues.

Local Government in Nigeria [Everything you should know about them]

What is a local government?

A local government is one of the three tiers/ level of government that exist in any Federal Republic. Local government are the closest form of government to society. It is much easier to contact or connect with the Local government than it is to the State governments or even the Federal government.

The local government areas in Nigeria are domains of the states created to ensure that the benefits from the government get closer to the people, also to propagate effective administration of resources in the lower level of government.

How many local government areas do we have in Nigeria?

Nigeria is the largest country in Africa, with a population of 180 million people. Also, Nigeria is a federal republic that has 36 states and further divided into 774 local government areas. Each Local government area is supervised by a local government chairman who is the Chief Executive of the local government area and Councilors for each ward.

The Local Government Chairman and Councilors for the wards make up the Local Government Council. The total number of Local Government Areas in Nigeria is 774 LGA.

How to get Local government certificate of origin in Nigeria?

A Local government certificate, also known as State of origin certificate is a document that certifies that a person is from a particular Local government area in Nigeria. This membership to a specific Local government area is if your parents or most especially your father originates from that particular Local government area.

Obtaining a local government certificate would require specific requirements to be met before the local government secretariat can issue the certificate. The requirements include:

Father’s Origin
Full and correct Name
Two recent passport
A stipulated fee
Local government dialect

Issues with Local government autonomy in Nigeria

Since the advent of the system of local government in Nigeria, there had been calls for the independence of the local government as one of the three tier of governance in the federal republic of Nigeria. It is worthy to know that over the years the federal government of Nigeria has played a role in seeing that autonomy is given to the local government. In the 1979 local government reforms, it was highlighted that the states have ceaselessly creep on that which have been the exclusive rights of the local governments.

To strengthen the independence and ideology of the local government, The Federal government of Nigeria ensured that the standard nature of local government was mandated by integrating it into the 1979 constitution. In the constitution, it was declared that “the system of democratically elected local government councils is under this constitution guaranteed”. Also, the administration of General Ibrahim Babangida from 1986 made bold steps to increase the independence of the local government councils. By January 1988, proper amount of autonomy came to local government with the removal of the local government state ministries nationwide thus taking off the political control and public inactions done by the state ministries.

Lack of independence of the local government areas is a pivotal problem that requires rapt attention. It’s important that local governments is genuinely autonomous in relation to the state and federal governments. The state governments capitalize the obscurities made in the 1979 constitution. They subsequently reviewed laws to suit their selfish desires. Proper attention wasn’t given to certain parts of the 1976 local government reforms that they were discontented with and misinterpreted those that were considered convenient. For example, between 1979 and 1983, only sole administrators and caretaker committees were appointed in local governments across Nigeria. No form of election was recorded to have held into the local government councils nationwide.

Local government reforms in Nigeria

The 1976 Local Government Reform was a move made by the military government as part of its proposed plans to return power to civilians, as a forerunner to active political stability in the country, it was created to ensure government programmes gets to the grassroots and to structure the local government system in Nigeria. The reform led to the creation of 301 local governments areas across the country of different populations between 150,000- 800,000 people.

Before the 1976 reform, the local government system in Nigeria was relatively less autonomous with the colonial era where we had Native Authorities serving as a route for the implementation of policies directed from Lagos. Towards independence, one of the notable changes was the election of councils to form a system. Still, immediately after independence, the power of the councils was reduced drastically.

However, various reforms have been implemented after the 1976 reforms. They include; the 1984 Dasuki report, the 1988 civil service reforms, the 1989 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, the 2003 reviews of local government council in Nigeria amongst others.

The structure/ administration of local government in Nigeria

The creation of Local government was to ensure that the people of the society are always in contact with those in a higher position in government.

The organizational structure of local government in Nigeria consists of the executive and legislative arms of the local government. The Executive structure consists of the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Supervisory councillors, and Heads of Departments. The Heads of Departments are career officers and are answerable to Supervisory Councilors.

The Legislative arm (Council), on the other hand, is made up of the Leader, Deputy Leader and Councilors.

The Chairman is considered as the Chief Executive and Accounting Officer of the Local Government. He serves as one of the signatories to the account of the local government area. Also, the Chairman’s office serves as the central point through which information is sent to the local government area and where information is received, processed, stored, analyzed and dispensed. It is through this information sent that regulations by local government administration are carried out.

The functions of local government in Nigeria

The functions of local government in Nigeria as highlighted by the Nigerian constitution of 1999 includes:

The local government is tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that there is the order in the market places, ensure citizens have access to proper amenities, streets drains, service roads and erect new facilities when possible.
Its mandate to be in charge of waste removal, evaluation of residential facilities for further tax collection and birth, death and marriage registrations.
It helps in overseeing the proper functioning of the various educational systems, the agricultural sector and others except for the mining sector.
The local government is responsible for collecting taxes, working with the broadcasting and radio, transport licenses and cemeteries. Also, providing housing for people in need.
It controls the activities of small and medium enterprises such as shops, kiosks, restaurants, bakeries etc.

The history of local government in Nigeria

Nigeria has implemented different systems of local government since the amalgamation of the northern and southern parts of the country in 1914. The beginning of local government administration in Nigeria can be traced back to the pre-colonial period. There was the existence of emirate systems of Borno and Sokoto caliphates: Egba, Ibadan, Ekiti and the Oyo empires. Obas, Emirs and Chiefs were in charge of the affairs of each of their kingdoms.

However, in each kingdom, there were smaller districts, villages and wards that were subject to the Obas, Emirs ad Chiefs in their respective kingdoms. These lower or subordinate levels of government could be regarded or considered as local government.

Then was the influx of the indirect rule system by the British colonialist. This system of indirect rule system later changed into the direct rule when the traditional rulers became ordinary local agents of the colonial officers. The Emirs in the North, the Obas in the West and Warrant chiefs in the East became the only native authorities in each domain.

Consequently, there was a reform in the 1930s which regularized the position of the Emirs as the Sole Native Authorities and consolidated emirate hegemony in the Northern heartlands. Similar developments occurred in the West and to some extent in the East.

The Native administration system continued to thrive in the Northern part of Nigeria until the rise of the modern local system between 1952 and 1965, and the era of Caretaker Committees and Sole Administrator Systems.

However, since 1970, the number of local government rose from 299 in 1970 to 301 in 1979, to 781 in 1981, when authority to create local government was given to the state government. After the overthrow of the civilian government in 1984, the numbers were again reduced to 301, and later they increased to 449 in 1987; 589 in 1991 and 774 in 1996.

FUOtuoke School Fees

Nigerian students of the Federal University Otuoke aren’t required to pay tuition fees because they are being paid for by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

However, students will have to pay sessional registration fees. The registration fee is usually between N96,000 to N106,000 for fresher, while for returning students, it’s between N47,500 to N57,500. This excludes the N10,000 that is customarily paid for hostel accommodation.

FUOtuoke Departmental cut off mark for JAMB and post utme 2017, 2018 and 2019

The university has five (5) faculties now. They are faculty of business administration and management services, education, engineering and technology, humanities and social science, and science. It recently released the cut-off points for each degree program in the university. The cut-off mark for each course is different.

Before the announcement made by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board that sales of forms for the 2020 UTME will commence by January 13th 2020,

I have received a series of emails, text, and Whatsapp messages from prospective students asking me on how to register for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination 2020.

In this section of the article, I will be sharing with you step by step guidelines you can use in registering for the UTME 2020 Examination,

JAMB Profile Creation

The first step is the JAMB profile creation. The candidate would require a phone number that would be used for the registration, creation of profile code, and receiving of relevant information from the board. The profile code is usually 10 characters, and it’s unique for each prospective student.
You can create their profile code by sending a message via SMS using this format SURNAME, FIRST NAME, OTHER NAMES to 55019. The unique profile code will be sent to the same number a few minutes later. The phone number must have airtime above N50 to able to perform this service.

Purchase of e-pin

You would have to purchase the JAMB e-pin form any of the authorized outlets by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board after successfully creating their profile code. The e-pin can be obtained from any of the following: Selected Banks, NIPOST offices nationwide, Mobile money operators, Remita, Quickteller, USSD partners, and designated embassies for foreign candidates. The price of the e-pin is between N3,500 to N4,000. The e-pin will be sent to the same number used in creating the profile code.

Registration at Accredited CBT centres

the candidate would have to take the e-pin to accredited CBT centres to continue the process of their registration.
You will have to present at the CBT centre because their biometrics will be captured and uploaded on the UTME portal. Also, O’level results will be uploaded on the portal. In contrast, prospective students with awaiting results will have to provide their result when they are available for upload on the UTME portal.
On successful completion of registration, the candidates will be provided with an e-slip. This e-slip will serve as evidence of registration.

How to check my UTME result

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board have uploaded the result for the UTME result on their e-Facility portal. Candidates can now check their 2019, 2020 and beyond UTME results using this following steps;

Login to the JAMB e-Facility by clicking here
Provide your registration number in the space provided
Finally, click the ‘‘CHECK MY RESULT’’ icon
Your result will be displayed on the screen for you to print.

When is UTME registration

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the UTME registration for 2020 exercise is set to start on the January 13th, 2020 and expected to close on February 17th, 2020. Also, the examination will begin from the 14th March until the 4th of April 2020.

The general public can now start making a purchase for the form through any of the accredited dealers.

What is the full meaning of UTME?

The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination is the regulatory examination organized by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board for candidates that wish to gain admission into any of the tertiary institutions in the country. The aim of the examination is to test the prospective students on the following; ability to solve problems, critical thinking, ability to apply scientific knowledge and principles that pertain to the various subjects written in the UTME.

Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination is a computer-based examination, however, before the year 2014, it was written as a paper and pencil test, the change to a computer-based test (CBT) was effected on the 17th May 2014. The registration for UTME occurs once in a year (from January to February) in the process of registration prospective students are allowed to choose three subjects with the English Language (which is compulsory) that makes up the subject combination for their desired course of study.

Most JAMB candidates have sent me various messages on how to download the JAMB brochure. Well, I have good news for you. Recently, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board released a download link for the Brochure for the 2020/21 UTME.

Does JAMB UTME have a portal?

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has an online portal where candidates can use for registration, uploading of O’level results, check their admission status and also, get the latest information about the board.

When is UTME and DE registration for 2020 starting?

The registration of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination for all prospective candidates (also, for foreign candidates) is expected to commence from the 13th January 2020. The registration form will be open for sales till the 17th February 2020.

The form for direct entry candidates will also be available for sale from the dates listed above.

How to check my UTME admission status

Successful candidates can check their admission status on the JAMB portal using their JAMB profile. However, candidates that registered from 2016 downwards would have to create a JAMB profile. You can check your admission status using the outlined steps:

Click on the JAMB e-facility portal here
Secondly, you will need to provide your username and password to login on your JAMB profile
Thirdly, navigate through the e-facility portal and click on the ‘‘Check Admission Status’’ icon.
Choose your appropriate exam year and enter your registration number in the required columns.
Lastly, Click on the ‘‘Check Admission Status’’ to confirm your admission status.

When is UTME admission list coming out?

There is no stipulated date for the release of the UTME admission list. However, Candidates can check the UTME admission list on the JAMB portal. You will be required to provide your email and correct password to be able to download the admission list.

How to check and print my UTME admission letter

Candidates must first check their admission status before thinking of checking or printing their UTME admission letter. If you have confirmed your admission status, you will have to make a payment of N1000 via the board website to be able to access your admission letter and print afterwards.

Step 2. Login to the portal by providing the required details (i.e. email and password)

Step 3. Click on the feature tagged ‘’ Admission Letter’’ on the portal

Step 4. After your admission letter is displayed, you can now proceed to print it.

When is UTME closing date?

The 2020 UTME closing date for registration will be on the17th February 2020. I actively advise candidates to finish their registration before the stipulated deadline for registration because the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board have said the deadline for the UTME registration will not be extended after the date as mentioned earlier.

UTME subject combination

During the registration for UTME 2020, candidates would be required to choose 3 more three subjects with Use of English (Use of English is compulsory for all candidates). Every course has its unique subject combination for candidates to write in the UTME. Below is a list of courses and their subject combinations for the tertiary institution in the country.

Geopolitical zones in Nigeria. Your Ultimate Guide.

What does a Geopolitical zone mean?

A geopolitical zone is a group of states that are classified together based on similar peculiarities and characteristics that they share. Although, location also determines to an extent the ways states are carved out into geopolitical zones, but similarities in political history is a greater parameter for classifying states into these zones. Nigeria has 6 geopolitical zones, which was established during the regime of the former head of states, General Sanni Abacha. These zones form the basis of resource allocation, political seat zoning, amongst others.

Furthermore, Nigeria, being a country with diverse languages and cultural inclinations, requires an effective basis for an association to prevent state singularity in the affairs of the country. This led to the merger of similar languages and cultures to form a body with adequate regional recognition.

The six (6) geopolitical zones in Nigeria and the states under them

As earlier established, Nigeria has 6 geopolitical zones with the 36states and the FCT being merged under various zones based on association and similarities. Below are the 6 geopolitical zones and the states within them.

North-Central:

Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nassarawa, Niger, Plateau, and Abuja;

North-East:

Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe;

North-West:

Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara;

South-East:

Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo;

South-South:

Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Edo, and Delta

South-west:

Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo.

Economic activities of the geopolitical zones

The North Central geopolitical zone

They are loosely called the middle belt of the nation with states like Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory. It consists of various ethnic groups that include, Idoma, Gwandara, Yoruba, Igala, Nupe, Tiv and many more. This zone houses the popular confluence city, where river Niger and river Benue meet. Due to the abundance of rivers, their main occupation and contribution to the economic development of the country is through agriculture. They are also well-grounded traders. It is a widely known fact that Nigeria (Check out 56 great facts about Nigeria) is blessed with a lot of mineral resources, some of which are present in this geopolitical zone. The top resources present in this region include; tin, iron ore, and limestone. This zone also houses the administrative territory and capital of Nigeria, Abuja, which happens to be a conglomerate of various ethnic groups that have come together to rule Nigeria as a country. The approximate population of this region is about 25million people.

The North-West geopolitical zone

The northwest geopolitical zone consists of 7 states in total. These states include; Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa, and Zamfara state. This region covers over a quarter of the total population of Nigeria. It is majorly tagged the core north of Nigeria with tribes like Kanuri, Fulani, Zara and Jabba amongst others. Due to their large expanse of land, their major economic activities are livestock rearing, commercial farming and artisan mining. This region also houses major cities like Zaria, Kano. Due to their high rate of childbirth, the estimated total population of this region is a little bit short of 50million, accounting for the highest population of any region in the country.

The northeast geopolitical zone

The northeast geopolitical zone consists of 6 states which are: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Yobe, Taraba and Gombe state. Although blessed with a massive expanse of land, this region has little natural resources and is also the least populated of all the geopolitical zones in northern Nigeria. The major occupation and economic activity of this region is farming and livestock rearing. It also constitutes various ethnic groups such as Fulani, Kanuri, Tiv and others. It is home to some tourist destinations like the sambisa game reserve, wikki warm spring and many more. The approximate population of this region is about 20million people.

The southwest geopolitical zone

This zone constitutes all the Yoruba speaking states in the country. These states include; Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun and Osun state. It is often tagged the most educated region in the country due to their love for academic achievements. Their major occupation and economic activity include farming, trading, fishing, cloth making and technological activities. Although these regions consist of many tribes, they all speak the same language. The total population of the region is around 30million people. With Lagos carrying a very large per cent of the total population. This region is also blessed with a lot of tourist destinations like Idanre hills, ikogosi warm spring, Erin-Ijesha waterfall, amongst others.

The southeast geopolitical zone

This geopolitical zone consists of 5 states. These states are Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Imo, and Ebonyi state. All of these states speak Igbo as their native language. Although there are various dialects, it is believed that everybody in this region can communicate effectively with the Igbo language. This major occupation is trading and other businesses. They are the most distributed in all the country. It is almost impossible to find a state with no Igbo trading there. Notably, they are blessed with natural resources that include: oil palm, lead, zinc and many more. They are the least populated of all the zones with a population of about 20million.

The south-south geopolitical zone

The south-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria consists of 6 states. These states are Cross-River, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Akwa-Ibom and Rivers state. These states have a common characteristic of being riverine in nature. Their occupation and economic activities in this region include trading, fishing, local manufacturing among others. All the states in the region are richly blessed with crude oil which have been the bedrock of Nigeria’s development. The tribes in this region include Itsekiri, Urhobo, Ijaw, Efik, and Ibibio. It has an approximate population of about 25million people.
