All about eBay Nigeria

by Abbey 26th February 2020
written by Abbey

eBay Nigeria is one of the most popular website where users can buy and sell goods and services on the internet. It’s a platform where individuals and businesses can buy or sell either new or second-hand items. Users can browse through various categories such as Clothing & Accessories, Antiques, Networking & Computers, Jewellery & watches and Video games.

The eBay operates as an online auction website, in which the bidding opens at a price the seller specifies and remains on the website for an allocated number of days, different buyers would place bids on them. When the listing comes to an end, the buyer with the highest bid wins.

 Does eBay ship to Nigeria?

This is one question that is always asked by many Nigerians largely due to the difficulties they face when they want to make their purchase from the eBay website compared to other online stores, regardless, shipping from eBay to Nigeria is very much possible. Well, it requires a bit of technicality to make a purchase from the website.

Buying and shipping from eBay straight to nigeria

Mall For Africa

I have personally used mallforafrica.com, they are actually a fantastic startup company recognized by the biggest companies in America. They are even in partnership with DHL to help courier your goods down to Nigeria. Ebay is not only for auctioning items alone, a vast majority of items are availble for sale just like you would buy something on jumia or konga.

Mall for africa, has their own card which you will purchase for a token. You will need to load money on the card. When the item you buy arrives via DHL, the company will call you to come and pick your goods from the location you have selected. Mall for africa has branches in every major city in Nigeria. I usually use their Ikeja branch, beside total filling station. To learn about the entire process, kindly visit mall for africa on this link.

Share-shop-ship

This is a relatively new kid on the bloc that promises to ship anything you want to buy from America striaght to you in Nigeria. You only need to send them the link of the items you want or ask them to source for it. The charge a handling fee from $50. From the look of things, you need to be wanting to buy a relatively expensive thing in other to justify that $50 minimum charge. This is unlike mallforafrica where you can buy things as cheap as $5. I don’t know these guys and certainly can’t vouch for them, but a seemingly trustworthy guy called Tayo Aina recommended them. You might want to give them a try for your ebay needs and see.

How to sell on eBay from Nigeria

Currently, Nigeria is not a listed country that is allowed to sell on eBay Nigeria website. However, many methods has been devised for Nigerians to sell on the website. Amongst them is selling as a citizen of any of the listed countries.

Here is a step by step guide in selling on eBay as a citizen of the United States to earn more cash:

Firstly, REGISTER, in registering as a Nigerian seller, you need to change the IP address of your device to a US IP address. It’s totally impossible to sell on the eBay Nigeria website if you aren’t registered. You can easily change your IP address using a VPN service.

Secondly, a US ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER, it’s important in having a US address when want to sell on the eBay Nigeria online site, you can obtain this from family, friends or colleagues that are based in the United States. Also, a working US phone number is needed for verification during the registration.

Finally, LIST ITEMS, after providing the US address, you would be required to list the product you intend to sell and also, you would be asked to choose a method of payment, many sellers usually use PayPal for that.

With this few steps, you would be able to sell easily on eBay.

eBay shipping to Nigeria. How does it work?

Shipping to Nigeria is possible, one must be determined and ready to be able to ship from eBay to Nigeria. Some sets of guidelines must be met to be able to purchase from the website to Nigeria. They includes:

  1. USD Visa or MasterCard – you can easily obtain these cards from any of the banks in Nigeria. With the card, you can be able to pay for the goods and shipping inclusive
  2. USA Address – a US address can be obtained from family and friends that resides in the US or through paid services
  3. eBay Account – opening an eBay account is absolutely free, but when opening an account, it would require a US IP address. You can easily change your IP address from that of Nigeria to that of the United States using a VPN service. There are lots of VPN applications like NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Windshield VPN etc that you can purchase or download for free on the playstore or app store.
  4. PayPal Account – PayPal is one of the foremost payment service providers in the world. It’s usually used by major online stores like eBay when making purchase. You must set your accounting records to that of an American.

Shipping is not impossible but it’s not a quick and easy process. It requires patience and attention to details to be able to ship goods to Nigeria

 eBay Nigeria website

You can access the eBay website using this link https://www.ebay.com

It’s a user-friendly website designed for easy access by all.

A guide to CAC office in Lagos state and Abuja Nigeria

by Abbey 26th February 2020
written by Abbey

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) is tasked with the responsibility for the incorporation of companies in Nigeria. This federal government-owned agency was established by the virtues of the companies and Allied Matters Act (LCN 2004) to regulate the formation and management of companies in Nigeria. The CAC is saddled with the responsibility of registering companies in Nigeria. It is a must for a business to be registered if you want to run a legal business entity in the country. The establishment of the Corporate Affairs Commission as an independent body was a result of the felt incapability of the quondam Company Registry, that was a department within the federal ministry of commerce and tourism which was then tasked with responsibility for the administration and registration of the repealed Companies Act of 1968.

The Corporate Affairs Commission headquarters is located in the heart of Abuja city, but due to delicacy of their work, the commission has offices in all the 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory.  These state offices can mostly be found in the capital city of every state in the federation. The CAC headquarters is located at Plot 420, Tigris Crescent, Off Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Maitama, Abuja. Nigeria

CAC Office in Lagos Nigeria as a whole

Lagos State, one of the most industrial and business-oriented state in Nigeria, has the highest number of CAC state offices in Nigeria.  This is evidential in the Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state, it stands as the highest in the country which is followed closely by states like Kano, Rivers (Port Harcourt) and Anambra.

Previously, one of the CAC office in Lagos state was located at Yaba LGA. It was recently moved to the Lagos Island axis. This relocation to the new address was done several years ago. It was moved in April 2016.

To register a business with corporate affairs commission, certain parts of the registration will have to be done online using the commission website, while the rest can be done offline at any of their offices in the country. A prospective business owner must print out the business name and the registration form and submit them at any of the CAC offices.

Once you have submitted the printed forms at the office, CAC will then begin the process of approval of your submission and issue you with the Corporate Certificate. With that, a business can be recognized legally in Nigeria.

In collaboration with all banks in Nigeria, the Central Bank of Nigeria was successful in launching a centralized biometric identification system. This innovative system was tagged Bank Verification Number. The BVN was developed to protect bank users. It also strengthens the banking system in Nigeria.

Before now, there have been increasing incidents of compromise regarding conventional security systems in Nigeria – that’s is, password and PIN. Demand for more robust security has been high. This is very important for sensitive and personal information in the nation’s banking system.

Today, the BVN exercise is compulsory for all bank account owners in Nigeria.

As 9mobile users, you are also expected to use the same code anytime you want to check your BVN. Simply dial *565*0# and wait for your BVN. Charges still apply, N20 anytime you want to check your BVN.

4. What is the bvn verification code

The BVN has truly helped the banking system in Nigeria improve. It ensu the safety of bank account owners better than before.

With the unique identity given to bank customers in Nigeria, identification and verification becomes easy – during important banking operations. This has been a breakthrough in the security of Nigeria banking industry.

If you don’t understand what biometrics mean. They are used to identify an individual based on certain physiological attributes. These attributes may include, facial features, fingerprints, voice, and others. These data are critical for banking safety of bank users

To combat the challenges regarding identity management, the CBN collaborated with all banks in Nigeria to launch a centralized biometric identification system. This gave birth to Bank Verification Number (BVN).

Catering services in Nigeria [The top 5]

by Abbey 28th February 2020
written by Abbey

One of the most lucrative business in Nigeria currently is that of catering services. It has developed in a multi-million industry over the years. The word ‘‘catering’’ is derived from ‘‘cater’’ which means to serve. It’s largely associated with the service of food & beverage to the customer & has a deep relation with hotel & tourism. Catering entails the business of providing food and drinks, typically at social events and in a professional capacity either on-site or at a remote location.

In this article, I would be writing on the catering services industry in Nigeria, its background, tips on how to choose the perfect catering service logo and my top 5 catering services company in Lagos.

Background information on catering services in Nigeria.

It’s impossible to talk about the catering industry in Nigeria without mentioning Mr Roberts Forth of the Nigerian Railway Caterers. He started the catering services industry on Nigerian railway cabins consisting basically of restaurant and bar.

However, he didn’t run these services for an extended period as the Nigerian railway took over the organisation and registered it as a limited liability company. It was however sold to the Nigerian UAC and subsequently GBOLIVANT Company. In 1946, the name was changed from ‘‘Railway Caterers’’ to ‘‘Nigerian Hotel Limited’’. Ever since the industry has experienced a whole lot of changes as we have seen the rise of so many top-ranked hotels as well as exquisite catering servicing industries.

How to get the perfect catering services logo

Having an exceptional culinary skills, creativity and poise under pressure is not all that is required in becoming one of the leading catering service company in Nigeria; you also need exceptional branding.

A beautiful logo is the first requirement. It’s the foundational step in a branding strategy and widely considered as the most critical branding investment a catering service business can make.

Choose a classy logo, with a style that speaks to the business audience you are targeting. Your logo must talk about your niche; it’s important that your logo speak of your type of cuisine and events you specialize in. This will set you apart from companies who don’t have a brand identity. Also make sure you use the right and harmonious colour combination when outsourcing your logo jobs.

The Corporate Affairs Commission headquarters is located in the heart of Abuja city, but due to delicacy of their work, the commission has offices in all the 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory. These state offices can most be found in the capital city of every state in the federation. The CAC headquarters is located at Plot 420, Tigris Crescent, Off Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Maitama, Abuja. Nigeria

Function/Job of Corporate Affairs Commission

The Corporate Affairs Commission performed other functions, and these are the functions that were assigned to it when the Corporate Affairs Commission was established. They include the following:

  1. To administer the Act, which consists of the regulation and supervision of the formation, incorporation and winding up of companies.
  2. To establish and maintain companies registry and offices in all the states of the federation suitably and adequately equipped to discharge its functions under the Companies and Allied Matters Act.
  3. Arrange and investigate the affairs of any company where the interest of the shareholders and the public so demand.

This is just an overview of the numerous functions been carried out by the commission.

Corporate Affairs Commission Portal

Recently, the CAC developed a portal where individuals or businesses can be able to access their various services. You can now easily either register your company, search for a company name and also register incorporated trustees using this portal.

The online portal was done to help remove the risk of unsuspecting individuals or companies transacting with unregistered companies with no legitimate status. This database will provide details like RC number, Company name, registered address and date of registration.

Corporate Affairs Commission Forms

There are several forms that are provided by the Corporate Affairs Commission to a user that wants to employ the services of the commission. They include CAC 1: Availability check and reservation of name form, CAC1.1: Application for registration form etc.

Each of the forms has a specific code number to differentiate them from the others.

You can get the complete list of the forms using this link https://www.cac.gov.ng/forms/

Registration of company

When you visit the website, you will be provided with the option of either registration for a private or public company, or register a company that is limited by guarantee. In this section of the article, we would talk about the two major forms of company registration.

Registration of a private or public company

  1. First, it’s required for one to check if the preferred company is available.
  2. Secondly, you must have to complete the pre-registration form – CAC1.1
  3. You then have to pay for stamp and filling duties. This first three steps can be done at the CAC company portal.
  4. Next, you need to provide the required documents for upload. They must be signed and stamped to be accepted. These documents are:
    • Form CAC 1.1
    • Recognized form of identification for director(s)/subscriber(s) and secretary
    • Memorandum and Article of Association (MEMART)
    • Evidence of payment

         6. The documents would then be uploaded so that they can be processed.

         7. You should then proceed to the CAC office where you will then submit the original copies of the uploaded documents listed              in  number 4 in exchange for the certified true documents copies as well as the certificate.

Registering a company limited by guarantee

  1. Ensure that the name you intend to use is available.
  2. Ensure you reserve any name you intend to use.
  3. By making use of the registration portal of the company, fill out the form CAC 1.1
  4. Make the required stamp duty payments to the Federal Board of Inland Revenue Service (FIRS)
  5. You also need to pay the filing fee. This fee should be paid directly to the CAC.
  6. Next is to Scan the completed form CAC1.1. Save this in a PDF format. This newly saved form CAC1.1 should be attached together with the Memorandum and Articles of Association (MEMART), in addition to a form which identifies the directors/subscribers and the secretary.
  7. This scanned documents will now be uploaded to the CAC documents portal for processing.
  8. CAC then needs to get approval from the Attorney general of the federation before it goes ahead to register the limited company by guarantee.

Jamb Matriculation List [What you should know]

by Abbey 4th March 2020
written by Abbey

JAMB matriculation list is a compilation of the names of the students that were duly offered admission into tertiary institutions by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. This board is the statutory body responsible for giving admission to prospective students in Nigeria. Also, anyone whose name is not found on the matriculation list will not be eligible for the NYSC mobilization program. That implies that such a person wasn’t offered an admission recognized by JAMB.

The NYSC is a compulsory one year program enacted by the federal government of Nigeria for Nigerian graduates from universities and polytechnics in the country and overseas. These graduates must be under 30 to participate in the one year program.

In this article, I will be sharing with you ways on how to verify if your name is on the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board matriculation list.

How to Check JAMB Matriculation List

Recently, JAMB released a portal in their e-facility website that contains the board list of legally admitted students in the country, with this students can easily verify if their names appear on the list. This has made the checking of names a lot convenient and faster.

Like I stated earlier, there’s no way you can participate in the National Youth Service Corps Mobilization if your name is not found on the board list. Here is a step by step guide for students that wants to verify/check their names on the matriculation list

  1. You need to visit the JAMB matriculation list here. Choose your appropriate examination year
  2. Input your JAMB reg number in the field provided
  3. You will have to click on Fetch My Details icon after inputting your JAMB registration number

After performing the last step, your details will be displayed by the portal showing your status.

‘‘Congratulations, you are on the Matriculation list’’, this is what your status will show if your name is successfully on the matriculation list.

How to check and print jamb matriculation list 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2013

The JAMB matriculation contains a list of matriculated students from Nigeria tertiary institutions for years like 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

With the JAMB matriculation list checker platform, you can check your status on the platform without stress using an internet-connected device such as your Personal Computer, tablets, or your mobile phone.

You can check for the matriculation list for any of the years using the steps provided in the previous section of this article.

Jamb matriculation list for NYSC mobilization 2018, 2019 and 2020

The JAMB matriculation for NYSC mobilization 2018, 2019, and 2020 is out. If your name fails to appear in the JAMB matriculation list, your application for the NYSC scheme for the compulsory one-year national service will be declined. However, to ensure your name appears on the list then you must perform the following steps:

  1. Your admission letter must be printed through the JAMB e-facility (same portal used for JAMB Caps)
  2. Secondly, using the e-Facility portal, you would have to print your JAMB result slip
  3. The last step involves you taking the documents printed in step 1 and 2 to your institution admission officer for verification.

If you successfully carry out the aforementioned steps, your name will automatically appear on the JAMB matriculation list for NYSC mobilization for 2018, 2019, and 2020. An institution like AAUA, FUTMinna, and ABU Zaria usually makes this verification process compulsory for their final year students before the listed deadline. This is to enable them to participate in the NYSC mobilization program.
