Adesola Adesimbo Idowu is a Nigerian rapper, songwriter and all-round entertainer. Weird MC identifies as an artiste, lyricist and producer whose sound is  a fusion of afrobeats and rap Club Essence plus anything undefined. Recognized for her English/Yoruba lyrics, Weird MC – also known as Shola Idowu and The Rappatainer – is one of Africa’s most popular female rappers, and one of the few Nigerian female artists associated with Afrobeat.  Her main influences are Fela Kuti, Missy Elliott, Jimi Hendrix, Lauryn hill, Tina Turner, Dr Dre, The Neptunes and Lagbaja. Her material borders on the political as well as “Party till u drop” Anthems.

Idowu was born in the United Kingdom to conservative parents who did not encourage her investing her time in showbiz. She had her secondary school education in Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School, Lagos Nigeria, where she made friends with four other girls with whom she formed the hip-hop group “Weirdos”. Despite their popularity on the campus circuit, they failed to land a record deal, and soon disbanded. Idowu proceeded into Ogun State University to study Law, but left after a year to focus on her music career, soon gaining a qualification in Music Technology; prior to this she had aspired to become a basketball player, but as the Nigerian Sports Commission did not fully support women in this field, Idowu moved back to England with the intention of emigrating to America to pursue her dream.

After a long break given to soul searching and spiritual awakening, Wierd MC released a second album in 2006, “After Da Storm” under 0907 entertainment reminding her fans once again of what music should sound like. With singles like “Ijo Ya” produced by Mr Skillz and Don Jazzy topping all audio and video charts for eight straight weeks and peaking at No 1 on MTV BASE.

Plantashun Boiz: The Journey

Plantashun Boiz were a Nigerian hip-hop and R&B music group. The Plantashun Boiz made up of three principal members namely Tuface, Faze and Blackface, undoubtedly the most successful and iconic boy group in Nigeria. The group was formed during their college years in Enugu, at the Institute Of Management And Technology (I.M.T Enugu), Eastern Nigeria.

The group left school and moved down to Lagos where they gained popularity and with the inclusion of new member Faze at that time. In lagos, they met with Tony Tetuila, an ex-member of The Remedies group. This led to further exposure of the group and eventual release of their first album as Plantashun Boiz in the year 2000.

In the early period of their career through 1998-2002 they won just about all the awards imaginable in the Nigerian music and social scene before their split prematurely, before the official release of their debut/sophomore albums Body & Soul and Sold Out respectively

The group however split up after the exit of 2Face who wanted a solo career on the platform of Kennis Music, this didn’t go down well with the other members of the group but they moved on and each released their individual single albums first with 2Face and then Blackface followed by Faze.

9ice: The artiste

Alexander Abolore Adegbola Akande popularly known as 9ice is a Nigerian musician. 9ice was born on the 17^th of January, 1980 into a polygamous family of five wives and nine children, in Ogbomosho, Oyo State in Western Nigeria. He grew up in Bariga suburbs of Lagos.

9ice attended Abule Okuta Primary school for his elementary education. He proceeded to CMS grammer school, bariga where he obtained his Senior secondary school certificate. Abolore got admitted to study Law at the Lagos State University but later dropped out to concentrate on his music career.

9ice had always nursed the ambition of being a musician. He began singing at the age of 14. After some time, his parents discovered his singing talent, and decided to allow him become a musician.

9ice became popular for his nunique style of music. He fuses the uniqueness of Yoruba proverbs in his afrobeats music genre. His lyrical abilities set him apart amongst the artist of his generation. The MTV awards recognized his artistry by awarding him the Best Hip Hop Artist at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2008.

In 1996, 9ice recorded his first demo titled Risi de Alagbaja, but it was not until 2000 that he released his first official solo song Little Money.

In 2008, he released the single Gongo Aso. With the song gaining popularity, 9ice was asked to perform at the Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday Tribute concert in London, United Kingdom in June 2008.

9ice later found his own record label company called Alapomeji Records, releasing all his other albums under the label. The hit song “Gongo Aso” contained in the album titled Gongo Aso became a major breakthrough for 9ice as it became a sort of national anthem sang at almost every occasion in the country at the time. Other tracks from the album include: Street credibility, Party rider, Pamurogo, Photocopy and many others.

9ice has released over seven (7) studio albums, with each album producing a hit song at least. 9ice is currently married and his marriage is blessed with four lovely children namenly Michelle Abolanle Akande, Maya Akande, Zion Akande and Miya Akande.

In the course of his career as musician, 9ice has won several awards which include Best African Act at MOBO awards, Best Act at Nigerian Music awards, Most indigenious Act at the Nigerian Entertainment awards, Best Act at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards, Best Male Vocal Performer at the Future Awards and Best Act at the LTV/Eko FM Awards.

Akpororo Biography

Jephthah Bowoto, popularly known as Akpororo, is a Nigerian stand-up comedian, vocalist, master of ceremony, television personality and actor. He originates from Ilaje, Ondo State, in the western part of Nigeria but he was born and grew up in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria where he had his early education.

Akpororo’s career started off as a local gospel musician before considering comedy. He took a step towards his comedy dream in 2008, Akpororo registered for the National Comedy Challenge by Opa Williams and went on to win the Calabar zone of the competition. In 2009, Akpororo moved to Lagos and contested twice in the AY open mic challenge, coming second in his first try and winning the competition at second attempt. After his victory in the competition, Akpororo began performing at AY shows both home and abroad. This helped him carve a niche for himself in the Nigerian comedy industry.

The journey to comedy for Akpororo wasn’t a bed or roses. He started at the for Opa Williams’ National Comedy Challenge. He was the best from the Calabar Zone of the Comedy Challenge. But at the National Level, he lost. He wasn’t the type to give up without a fight, so he tried his luck with AY’s Open Mic Challenge where he came second best.

He gave AY’s Open Mic another try and this time he won. After winning. He added another thirst to his hunger for successes. He begged to perform for free at shows. Some he got. Some he didn’t.

Akpororo persisted. He hustled hard, dreamed big, desired so much to achieve his goal. Fortune soon smiled at Akpororo after his performance at Basketmouth’s Laff and Jam in Ikoyi. He did a joke about the testimony of a mad man in church. And at the end of his performance, he gave testimonies about how from that day on, he began getting serious, high paying, globe- trotting bookings.
