The main function of the Ministry is to promote the maintenance of both the internal security and citizenship integrity – in order to improve good governance.

The present Honourable Minister of Interior, Nigeria is Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola was the eighth Governor of Osun State. He was born on the 25th of May, 1957.

He completed both his primary and secondary education in Ondo state. Later, Rauf Aregbesola proceeded to the Polytechnic of Ibadan. Here, he studied Mechanical Engineering. He graduated from the institution in 1980.

While he was still in the Polytechnic of Ibadan, he was once the Speaker of the students Parliament (from 1977 to 1978). Rauf was also the President of the block Nationalist movement (from 1978 to 1980).

He used to also support other student progressive movements nationwide. This earned him several recognition, he had a life membership for the National Association of Technological students.

By 1990 (June), Aregbesola was an elected delegate of the inaugural SDP Local Government Area Congress. And  on July of the same year, Rauf was delegated to the National convention, Abuja.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola served as the Director of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Campaign Organization. In 1999, the organization engineered the victory of Bola Ahmed Tinubu – as the Governor of Lagos State.

Also, Aregbesola is fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM), a fellow of the Certified Marketing Communications Institute of Nigeria (FCMCIN), a fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), and a fellow of the Nigerian Association of Technological Engineers (FNATE).

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is a pro-democracy Human Right activist. He was a key participant in the pro-democracy struggles and demilitarization (during the 1990s). He has also been an activist for other progressive courses. In 1999 to 2007, Rauf was the Lagos commissioner for works and infrastructure.

In year the 2007 elections, Aregbesola ran for Governor of the state – the candidate for the PDP, Oyinola Olagunsoya was pronounced the winner. The decision was appealee by Aregbesola, and on November 26, 2010, he was declared the winner.

On the 9th of August, 2014, Aregbesola won another tenure as the governor of Osun State.
