The Federal Characters Commission was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The Commission was created in order to maintain equal and accountable share of posts – especially in the both the public and civil service of Nigeria. The government agency has its office in Wuse, Abuja, FCT.

The FederalCharacterCommissionwas among the 14 Independent Federal Executive Bodies. The 14 Bodies wereestablished by the Section 153 (1) of the 1999 Constitution.

The Commission was however in in existence three years prior the constitution was createdby Decree No. 34 of 1996.

Before the enactment of the Pension Reform Act 2004, several pension schemes in the country has lots of problems. Back then, the Public Service has an aDefined Benefits Scheme which was unfundedwhile the annual budget  include the payment of retirement benefits.   • A minimum of 2nd Class Degree from a reputable University. For Officers, the NYSC Discharge Certificates are required.
  • Applicants must be medicallyfit.
  • For other ranks, a qualification in NCE, OND, or School Certificate(at least 5 credits, English Language and Mathematics inclusive) is required.
  • Good character and communication skills are required.
  • An applicant must be psychologically stable.
  • You must be physically fit. At least be prepared to run a 10 kms (non-stop), do at a minimum of 10 chin ups, and do up to 40 push ups.
