Brief history of Unimaid
The University of Maiduguri popular called UNIMAID is a tertiary institution owned and managed by the federal government of Nigeria. It is located in the city of Maiduguri, Borno State. It was created by the federal government in 1975. At inception, the university had no physical structures of it own. In 1976, it took over the premises of the former North East college of arts and science (NECAS). The inherited buildings were enough to kick start the activities of the University. Notably, the staffs of NECAS were absorbed into the institution when academic activities commenced in October 1976.
The university has grown to become a key player in the educational sector of the country. Quite a number of prominent individuals in the country have passed through the school. The current Vice-Chancellor of the school is Professor Aliyu Shugaba.
