TESCOM: What They Do?

The Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) is a platform responsible for training officers on Grade Level 13 and above on skills such as management and leadership skills. This set of teachers are trained to ensure uniformity and standardization.

TESCOM aims at promoting professional excellence and ensuring capacity development, career management, facilitating promotion for eligible staff, supporting the recruitment of qualified personnel into teaching service, promoting productivity, and a host of others.

Some of TESCOM’s responsibilities include issuing guidelines to the education districts on pension, training officers on Grade Level 13 and above, promoting staff welfare for both teaching and non-teaching staff, issuing certificates of service for teaching and non-teaching staff, etc.

Established by Oyo State Law of 1992, the Teaching Service Commission was created to oversee the recruitment and management of teachers of post primary schools in the state.

Some of the Oyo State TESCOM objectives are to- improve teaching and learning standard in public secondary school, build a globally-competitive education system, create a system that is development-driven, provide qualified teachers, supply instructional materials, and sustain teaching and learning standard in order to conform with the best global practices.
