The National pension commission has a responsibility to regulate and supervise the pension industry in Nigeria. This would ensure that retirees get their benefits as when due.

Before the enactment of the Pension Reform Act 2004, several pension schemes in the country has lots of problems. Back then, the Public Service has an aDefined Benefits Scheme which was unfundedwhile the annual budget  include the payment of retirement benefits. One of the most vulnerable things on the implementation of the budget was the annual allocation for pension.

There have been caseswhereby untimely release and inadequatefunds promoted delays and accumulation of pension payment in arrears regardless of the budgetary provisions. As a result these inconsistency, the Defined Benefits Scheme was not able to be sustained.

Pencom certificate 2020

According to the National Pension Commission, arrangements to being issuing annual Certificate of Compliance was recently made. This is for its employers to comply with the recent provisions by the Pension Reform Act of 2014.

The certificate is mandatory. Especially for all organizations who do business with the Fed. Govt. Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
