Nigeria is a blessed nation. It is a nation blessed with tones of natural resources deposited around the states of the country. However, the most prominent natural resources in Nigeria as a country is crude oil. Nigeria produces around 2.5-2.7 million barrels of crude oil per day. It is the largest oil-producing nation in Africa and the 6th in the world. Notably, large part of this crude oil is produced by the Niger Delta region of the country.
Nigeria has about nine active oil-producing states. However, the most prominent of these states are Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa, accounting for over 85% of the total amount of oil produced in the country. Other oil-producing states include Ondo, Lagos, Imo, Abia and Edo. Additionally, Nigeria is working on discovering oil in different regions of the country, and a lot of progress has been recorded, although work is still in progress.

1. Akwa Ibom
Akwa Ibom account for about 510,000 barrels of oil daily, making it the biggest oil-producing state in the country. Akwa Ibom is a prosperous state and is currently one of the most beautiful states in Nigeria. It is also a coastal state and is home to a lot of oil and gas companies, both international and indigenous.
2. Delta state
This is the second-largest oil-producing state in the country with about 350,000 barrels being produced daily. It is also one of the richest states in Nigeria as a lot of oil and gas companies are located in the state, especially at Warri, which happens to the commercial hub of the state. There is a refinery and petrochemical company in the state.
3. Rivers state
Used to be the biggest oil-producing state before getting displaced by Akwa Ibom. It has a lot of active refineries and oil companies. A lot of offshore activities are being carried out in this state. It produces about 350,000 barrels per day. Its capital, Port Harcourt, is one of the largest commercial hubs in the country.
4. Bayelsa state
It started the advent of something good in the country, as oil was first discovered in large quantity in this state. It has been churning out crude oil since 1959 when it was first found in Oloibiri. It still has one of the largest deposits of crude oil and natural gas deposits. It produces about 290,000 barrels of oil per day.
5. Ondo state
It is not located in the Niger Delta region of the country but is abundantly blessed with crude oil. It produces about 60,000 barrels of oil per day. It is a state currently experiencing rapid growth in its economy since the discovery of oil.
6. Lagos State
Is there anything Lagos doesn’t have? I guess not. Lagos has cemented its place among the oil-producing states of the country after oil was discovered around its suburbs some years back. It remains the wealthiest state in the country due to its vast commercial capacity. It is also famous for being an industry and startup-friendly state. It produces about 45,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
7. Edo State
Edo state is the 7th largest oil-producing state in Nigeria. It has an expected turnover of about 33,000 barrels oil per day. It is also a very commercial city with economic activities centred around trading and investment.
8. Imo state
t is arguably the wealthiest Igbo state in the country. It produces about 19,000 barrels per day. It also has a deposit of other mineral resources that include limestone and zinc, read more about mineral resources in nigerian states here.
9. Abia State
Abia state gained its popularity for its commercial reputation and manufacturing potentials. It also produces oil, with about 11,000 barrels of oil being produced per day.
