The Nigerian Police force is a security agency established in the 1930 by the colonial rulers. It is charged with fighting against crimes and maintenance of law and order in Nigeria through its various units and commands.
The units consist of the Anti-Fraud Section, The Central Criminal Registry, Special Anti-Robbery Squad, General Investigation, Special Fraud Unit, Legal Section, Forensic Science Laboratory, Interpol Liaison, Homicide, Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Force Intelligence Bureau, DCI Kaduna Annex and Counter Terrorism Unit.
The police also work in collaboration with other security and paramilitary agencies to ensure that the internal peace and stability of Nigeria is maintained.
Notwithstanding the high risks associated with the Police job, Police officers in Nigeria are poorly remunerated. From poor housing conditions in barracks, poor welfare scheme and poor salary, the Police officers have been reduced to mere beggars on the highway and even in their offices.
It is against this backdrop that the Federal Government in 2018 decided to increase the salaries of Police officers in the country.
