Established in 1968, the Lagos State Scholarship Board is an organ of the State Government. It was created just after Lagos State was created – to take over the Scholarship, Bursary, and several matters relating to education.

The major function of this board include:

The board is in charge of the award and administration of scholarships.

Helps in coordinating several Scholarship Awards by the Federal Government to Lagosians. For example, the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) and the Commonwealth.

It is the policy formation and advisory body every matter relating to scholarship, locally and internationally, of the State Government.

It liaises between the Lagos State Government and the Federal Government matters relating to scholarships.

It takes over the administration of Bursary Award to indigenes of the State who deserves it to run full-time courses in several tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

How to apply for lagos state scholarship

Would you like to apply for the Lagos State Scholarship program (local scholarships)? Below are some modalities for disbursement of Local Scholarship Awards:

The applicant needs to but a Scholarship application form for Local Scholarship through the office of the Special Adviser on Education in the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja. The form costs N2,000.

An applicant must be an indigene of Lagos State – through paternity.

He/she must first secure full-time admission into a tertiary institution.

A minimum of 3.5 CGPA is required for undergraduates. For postgraduates, a minimum of 2.1 (a minimum of 2nd Class Upper) is required.

An applicant needs to attend both written and oral tests conducted by the Board.

You must present these documents:

  • School Identity Card.
  • Your admission letter.
  • Letters from Oba and also from your Local Government.

Do you want to register for the Lagos State Bursary? To begin with this, you can visit https://lagosscholarship.org/bursary.

Before you begin, please consider these. Below are some modalities for the disbursement of Bursary Awards:

You must purchase a Bursary application form through the office of Special Adviser on Education, Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja. It is N1,000 and N2,000 for Law School Students.

By paternity, you must be a bonafide indigene of Lagos.

You must have secured a full-time admission into a higher institution.

You must attend the Bursary Award interview. This will be conducted by the Board which will be screened by Panel Members – Permanent Secretaries/Directors, Retired Seasoned Administrators, and Traditional Rulers within 5 divisions of the State.

Also, you must present documents to prove your claims such as:

  • Letters from Oba and your Local Government.
  • School Identity cards.
  • Admission letters.

Other procedures and relevant documents:

When you are successful, you will need to purchase a brochure, N1,000 for Bursary; N2,000 for Law School, and Maritime Academy Students, Oron.

You will still need another screening with the Board. This time, all the necessary documents are submitted. Also, files will be opened for them.

Files will be sent to the Account department in order to process the payment.

The accounting department will scrutinize each of the files for confirmation of the attached documents.

As a successful applicant, your name will be sent to the bank in order to produce ATM cards. Here, you would signal the required documents then you would collect your ATM card.
