About The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, is a body of professional accountants in Nigeria.

Currently, there are two regulatory authorities for professional accountancy in Nigeria. One is ICAN. The other is the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria.

In 1960, The Association of Accountants in Nigeria (AAN) was established – where Chief Akintola Williams played the leading role. The aim of this association was to train Accountants.

Founded on 1st September 1965, the Institute of Chartered Accountants was established by an Act of Parliament No. 15 of 1st September, 1965 – from the existing accounting and auditing organizations inlcuding AAN.

When ICAN started operation, it has 250 members. In 2003, the membership of ICAN grew to 12,000. As of August 2004, the institution started training its members on Information Technology. By 2011, more members were being recruited, having a total of 32,725 members – and still growing. The current membership is over 50,000.

Ican Registration. How to do it.

If you want to be a professional student, follow the steps below to register:

  1. Go to any Nigerian commercial banks. Pay N7,000 via Pay Direct. Payment can also be made on ICAN’s official website.
  2. When you are done with the payment, head to to website address on the receipt, register there.
  3. Now you will need a colored passport photograph. You will scan it then later add it to your registration form.
  4. Print out your completed application for, then sign it.
  5. Next, find a chartered accountant referee/sponsor. Include his/her name, phone number, and membership number.
  6. The completed application form needs to be certified by your referee/sponsor – so take it to him/her.

In case you want to register using the AAT results, the fee here is N23,500 (for induction/conference). Make sure that you add the receipt to the application.

Note: When you are done with the registration process, you can always check the Financial status/Exam on the ICAN portal. All enquiries can also be sent to professionalexams@ican.org.ng.

How to Check ICAN Result

Checking ICAN result is simple.

You can do this easily on its official website. Simply follow the steps below: following simple steps:

  1. Head on to ICAN’s website.
  2. Click the menu and go to the student’s page.
  3. Now tap on the check Professional Results tab.
  4. You need to select the examination level ( either March, July, or November).
  5. Enter student examination number – yours, of course.
  6. Enter your student registration number (the 6 digits number).
  7. Finally, input you E-voucher PIN. This is your latest Exam Registration E-Voucher with twelve digits.

What is The ICAN Exam Fee?

The ICAN exam fees differ. It depends on the level and also the tutorial center you choose to study. For use ttutorial alone, you can expect up to N27,000 per diets.

Now for the exam fee, this also depends on the number of diet. So be prepared for at least N100,000 for both skills and professional examinations. For non-accounting students, an additional foundation fee of N40,000 is needed.

Am I Eligible for ICAN Exemption?

You are eligible to register as a student of a professional exam if you have B.Sc or HND – in any field. Although you will still need to begin exams from Foundation, here, you are not eligible to be exempted in any subject.

The ICAN ATS Portal

You can access the ICAN’s ATS portal by using this link: www.icanexamsonline.org/ats. When the page opens, click on the diet Examination Application Form if you want to enroll with a pin voucher. To use Verve/Master/Visa ATM card/Pay direct, simply click the link ‘Examination/Financial status’.

ATS Exam Fee

Registration usually costs N6000. There are different methods of payment for this examination.

Make your payment, then get your payment receipt. When you are done with this, proceed with your application for the exam at: www.icanportal.org/ats/paymasters/paydirectindex.

Now input your Deposit Slip Number on the payment receipt, followed by your receipt number.
