When you want to go for the registration, please go with your identity card from the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASSRA). You can also use any other document to prove that you reside in Lagos.

Next, you are to make a choice regarding the hospital you prefer under the LSHS platform (there is more than 200 hospitals under this health insurance scheme).

When you are done registering for the program, you must pay for the premium on/before the 25th of the month. This will help you access the healthcare benefit the following month. You can make this payment in any of the available plans.

One of the plans available in the “Family Plan”. This plan is for 2 to 6 people – mother, father, and four kids who are below 18 years. The Family Plan requires payment of N40,000 per year. This allows the family to enjoy LSHS for only 12 months.

What about larger families with more children who are below 18 years? There is also a provision for it. Payment of N6,000 yearly is required for an additional child. Also, for an additional child over 18 years or an adult, an extra charge of N8,500 per year is required.

Another plan available under the LSHS is the “Individual Plan”. It covers people residing in Lagos. Here, for an individual to enjoy the scheme, he/she must pay N8,500 per year.

For premium payment of any of the plans, you can pay via any of the banks within Lagos, via mobile payment on your phone, or through the scratch card from the LSHMA Health Insurance Agents and USSD Code.

After paying, you will be required to sign the terms of the agreement. It will be sent to the phone number that you registered with. Then,  your “Policy Number” (it’s confidential) will be sent to you.

When all these have been completed, the hospital of your choice will be assigned to you. You are to visit there in order to open a Medical File for you. Thereafter, you can begin to enjoy quality healthcare.

If you registered for the “Individual Plan”, you change the plan to “Family Plan” whenever you get married.

Please note that whenever there is an emergency, you can have access to healthcare in ANY LSHS hospitals closest to you. You don’t need to go to the hospital you initially chose.

You can also purchase any of the plans for your parents, less privileged around you if you have the capacity. The healthcare scheme can be a good gift for anyone.

History of lagos state judiciary

When it comes to Judiciary in Nigeria, the Lagos State Judiciary is the oldest.

It has been in existence since the time of the Cession of Lagos to the British Government. Back then, it was known as the Colony Province Judiciary.

The Magistrates’ Courts were the first court to be established. This was followed by the established (it was known as the Supreme Court), where its jurisdiction was limited to Lagos alone. As self-government, the Federal Territory of Lagos took over the two forms of courts available – the Supreme Court and the Magistrates’ Courts.

When the Federal Supreme Court was created, the Lagos Supreme Court was made the High Court of the Federal Territory Lagos. On the 22nd of July, 1964, Hon. Justice Conrad Idowu Taylor served as the Chief Justice of the Court. The most well known and oldest Judicial building in Nigeria is the High Court building in Lagos State. It is the headquarters of the Court.

The Decree No. 4 of 1967 (Creation and Transitional Provisions) allowed the merging of the High Court and the Magistrate Court of the Federal Territory with the High Court and the Magistrate Court of the former Western Region (it was in Ikeja then). The Decree took effect on May 27, 1967, shortly after Lagos State was made as one of the 12 states by virtue of the provision of the States. It became the Lagos State Judiciary and the first Chief Justice was Hon. Justice Conrad Idowu Taylor. Chief Judge of Lagos State is the current title of the office. On November 7, 1973, the tenure of Hon. Justice Idowu Taylor as the Chief Judge was over.

On August 20, 2019, the current Chief Judge of Lagos State was sworn in. Hon. Justice Kazeem Alogba is the current and the 17th to hold the office.

The head of Courts is the Chief of Judge. Since January 2019, there are 59 Hon. Judges and 153 Magistrates in the Lagos State Judiciary.

In the Lagos State Judiciary, there are High Courts, Magistrate Courts, and Customary Courts. Each of them has its own Rules.

Also, the Chief Registrar of the High Court if Lagos State is the Chief Accounting Officer, Head of Administration, Tax Master, Official Receiver, Sheriff, and the Probate Registrar.

Justice Oke spoke at the launch in Igbosere High Court of Lagos Island about how modern technology could be good leverage at the probate registry. It means that every human error and possible corruption within the department will be cut off to the barest. It will also make service delivery more effective and easier.

The Chief Judge also explained how repositioning the registry will ease the submission of probate applications. Introducing online payments will also revenue leakage as well as eliminate certain bureaucratic challenges.

Another point made by the Chief Registrar (Mrs. Taiwo Olatokun) was how the automation process would fasten customer service delivery. Members of the staff have gone through training that will allow them to use the innovation to deliver friendly support to the customers.
